Check out the Fire Depts. program for the elderly and those needing assistance that are living alone in the city limits of Corbin.
CITIZEN ASSIST PROGRAM
CITY OF CORBIN, KENTUCKY
805 SOUTH MAIN STREET
CORBIN, KY 40701
The purpose of Corbin’s Citizen Assist Program is to offer peace of mind and assistance to single, retired citizens as well as disabled or handicapped citizens that live alone.
Upon completing an application each person that participates in the Citizen Assist Program will be telephoned each day (365 days a year) by a member of the Fire Department to make sure that the person has no pressing medical problems or emergency needs. Unless prior notification is given to the Fire Department, each participant will be called during the morning hours.
If no one answers the telephone when called, the Fire Department will have someone go to their home to check on the well being of the participant.
Therefore, it is extremely important for each participant to notify the Fire Department anytime that the participant will be away from his/her home during the morning hours on any day so that the Fire Department will not dispatch someone needlessly to go to the home of the participant. Participants can call the Fire Department at 528-2411 or the Police Department at 528-1122 to give proper notification that no one will be home.
Anyone in the City Limits of Corbin wishing to participate in this program can do so by calling either of the above numbers or by visiting the Fire Station located adjacent to City Hall.
Although the City of Corbin, Kentucky is under no obligation to provide services, the City is attempting to provide the services in order to promote the welfare of its citizens. However, due to the many other activities and duties that the City must perform the City may not be able to provide the services at the time scheduled, or even at all, on any particular day, and that participants should rely on relatives or other persons to check on their well-being.
It is believed that this is the first program to ever be implemented in the Corbin area such as this. Therefore, citizen input is most welcomed concerning improving and expansion of services, etc.
